The University of Latvia (UL) is a state-run classical university. The UL with its 15,000 students, 13 faculties and more than 20 research institutes is one of the largest comprehensive and leading research universities in the Baltic States.
The UL offers more than 130 state-accredited academic and professional study programmes. Research is conducted in over 50 research fields; the UL holds expertise in the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and education sciences. Social context of the UL represents national and international student, researcher and academic staff body.
The UL has gained profound competence in the language used in the domain of cross-cultural communication, both in terms of its application in cross-linguistic interaction and in developing this competence to the UL students. It has vast experience and knowledge in language as a system of human communication, with a focus on pragmatics and anthropological pragmatics, in particular. It facilitates international communication, based on thorough knowledge of various social aspects that underlie communication in professional settings. Besides, the key competences, it has expertise in the area of language acquisition, which concerns the application of communication types, methods and means to master and display the skills of communication in the target language applied in professional domains.

VU University Amsterdam founded in 1880 is a leading research university that ranks among the best in Europe. VU University Amsterdam employs many researchers who are among the best in their respective fields, at both national and international level, and for several years has been one of the leading academic research centers in Europe
The VU houses 12 faculties, 14 interdisciplinary research institutes, participates in two national research centers of excellence of which one as coordinating institution and is participant in 40 accredited research schools, of which 6 as coordinating institution. In total, the VU employs over 1,750 research FTE and yearly more than 6,650 academic articles, monographs and books are published and more than 300 doctorates are honored. Over the past three years nearly 300 projects have been funded by EU with VU-VUmc as a legal representative.
The University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam have joined their respective faculties of Dentistry in the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). It is the largest institute for dental education and dental research in the Europe and globally ranks among the leaders in teaching and research. Research at ACTA is focused around two research programs: "Oral Regenerative Medicine" and "Oral Infections and Inflammation". In the research program “Oral Infections and Inflammation” ACTA aims at integrating basic science and clinical research towards understanding of (i) fundamental processes that sustain oral health (ii) (early) deviations from health homeostasis (iii) preventive measures and restorative procedures and (iv) treatment concepts in relation to behavior management.
Department of Preventive Dentistry is one of the leading partners in “Oral Infections and Inflammation” program. The research at this Department covers physico-chemical, biochemical, microbiological and clinical aspects of the oral cavity. All aspects are studied by means of various intra-oral and in vitro models, which simulate the natural processes in the oral environment and which are designed to evaluate the effects of immunological, biochemical and microbial activity, preventive measures and restorative materials and procedures, thereby covering the field of research from the molecular level up to in situ and clinical studies.

The Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP) was created in 1985 and comprises 7 Schools: Education (ESE); Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE); Engineering (ISEP); Accounting and Administration (ISCAP); Management and Industrial Studies (ESEIG); Management and Technology (ESTGF); and Applied Health Technology (ESTSP). In 2011, over 16.000 students attended the seven Schools located in 6 cities within the Porto district.
